Falls Count Anywhere - 2022
Falls Count Anywhere is a zine structured as a glossary of professional wrestling terms. It examines how obfuscatory language can create and express complex relationships to knowledge, both within and beyond the wrestling ring.
By combining original writing, excerpts from fan message boards, and personal correspondence, the zine presents an account of the intricate pleasure derived from the fluid—and often violent—boundary between truth and falsehood. It traces how the much-debated distinction between a “work” (a fabricated event) and a “shoot” (a genuine occurrence) allows wrestling’s methods to transcend fandom and become a lens for understanding visual culture more broadly.
